Children In Need - of homes

It’s the BBC Children In Need appeal tonight, an excellent charity that makes a real difference to the lives of children through providing grants to projects in the UK which focus on children and young people who are disadvantaged in life.

The Guardian recently reported that the number of homeless children in temporary accommodation has risen by 37% since the second quarter of 2014.

The government states it is helping local councils and developers work with local communities to plan and build better places to live for everyone. This includes building affordable housing, improving the quality of rented housing, helping more people to buy a home, and providing housing support for vulnerable people.

For the last 30 or 40 years we simply have not built enough homes and today’s young people are around half as likely to own their home at the age of 30 as their baby boomer counterparts at the same age.

What’s the solution?

There are many initiatives, and although not good for families, one focus in the capital is the “micro-flat”. In our cities, space-saving is the name of the game and the micro-flat is fast becoming London’s answer to the housing shortage. Councils will probably approve planning to combine small flats to create one family property, but they are no longer allowing builders to convert large homes that are adjacent to one another into a “super-home” for one family, there just isn’t enough space!

House builders up and down the country are busy building houses trying to keep up with the demand, this is where Rethync Ltd join the crusade and are providing a secure compounds to store all the valuable material in whilst the houses are being built.

Be it in the countryside or city centres every little bit of space is required on site and because Multisite hoarding goes into the ground there is no need for backstays. Safety when building houses is key and Rethync provide a site-specific wind load calculation for the Multisite Steel Hoarding. We can even adapt the hoarding to make a home for the building material to be stored in, protecting it from the elements during the build. Should you be building homes and want more information on site hoarding contact Rethync today.

It is a basic need, every child and adult should have a safe and secure house, that they can call home, not just a place that they sleep!
